Great as a breakfast idea or even as a mid-meal snack

Kiwi-strawberry (sugar-free) smoothie
You know there are some of those days when you wake up wanting to have a simple breakfast. But not bread and cheese or not even creal and milk. Something a little more fun but doesn’t involve having you slave in the kitchen. It was one of those days.
 I didn’t want to spend too much time making breakfast because I knew I’d a yummy fishy lunch in store, and I wanted to do full justice to that, so I wanted something a little fruity, something chilled (thanks to the fierce heat rearing its ugly head) and something I could put together in minutes. First I thought of doing a yogurt with loads of fruit or maybe even muesli with honey yogurt and fruits, but it just didn’t seem right because I knew these would fill me up way too much.
So I finally settled on a smoothie, which fit the bill just right!  These was more than a glassful leftover so I chilled it a little more and had it in the afternoon to keep the two-hour power cut blues away.
2 cups of strawberries, hulled and chopped
2 kiwi fruits, peeled and chopped
¾ cup of fresh curd (made with skim milk)
2 tbsp of honey (more or less depending on your sweet tooth!)
Put all the ingredients in the blender and blend until you get a smooth puree. You can add some pieces of chopped fruit, if you like the variation in texture. Pour into glasses, chill for half an hour. Garnish with a sprig of mint of a fresh strawberry piece just before serving.
  • Add a banana if you want to skip the honey, this way you can also make the smoothie vegan and skip the curd because the banana will give it more volume.
  • You can add nuts to the smoothie for a different texture.

Mix and match fruits and berries to create your own combination. Serve with a scoop of ice cream if you’re feeling indulgent.

  1. Tangy works for me, so I don't mind.. but the curd was bland so it kinda balanced the flavours.. but if you like, like I've mentioned, you can add a banana to get hints of sweet..
